Eisenhower Fire Station

Eisenhower Fire Station – Alexandria, VA

Owner: City of Alexandria
Client: WGM Architects
LEED NCv2009 Silver

Eisenhower Fire Station is one of the first fire stations in Virginia to use a geothermal water source heat pump system. The vertical wells are located on-site under the parking lot. The Fire Station has 6 apparatus bays, residential facilities for the on call fire fighters, as well as a large space for the community to use. The project site sits on an old car impound lot, which was remediated prior to construction beginning on the new station. Not only does this project use geothermal, but is paired with very efficient mechanical equipment to maximize energy savings for the building. The project has also incorporated low flow water fixtures to reduce the amount of potable water used in the building. Case Study
